The Day-Date 40 arrived in 2015 with calibre 3255, the first of Rolex's current generation of movements, and like every Day-Date it is only made in precious metal. In 18ct Everose gold with baguette diamonds at the hours it is one of the most formal watches Rolex makes.

This Rolex Day-Date 40 wears a 40mm 18ct Everose gold case and a chocolate dial with baguette diamond hour markers. Calibre 3255 inside, on an 18ct Everose gold President bracelet.

Fun fact: The President bracelet was designed for the Day-Date in 1956, with three-piece semicircular links made only in gold and platinum.

The Day-Date arrived in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show the day of the week spelled out in full, in an arched window at 12, with the date at 3. Rolex builds it in 18 ct gold or platinum rather than steel, and it introduced the bracelet of three rounded links that took the President name from 1957 onward. The fluted bezel is the usual choice, with smooth and gem set versions alongside it. It runs in 36 mm and 40 mm today, and the day disc is offered in a choice of languages.
