The 5930 revived a combination Patek had made only once before, a world time chronograph dating to 1940, reintroducing it in white gold in 2016. The platinum version followed in 2021 with a hand-guilloched green dial. The world time mechanism descends from Louis Cottier's system, in use at Patek since the 1930s.

This Patek Philippe World Time Flyback Chronograph wears a 39.5mm platinum case with a green opaline dial, hand-guilloched under the city ring. Calibre CH 28-520 HU inside, on a green alligator strap.

Fun fact: the chronograph has no running seconds hand of its own. The central chronograph hand doubles as the seconds indicator, which is why the only subdial is the 30-minute counter at 6. As on every Patek platinum case, a single diamond is set into the band.

World Time

All 24 time zones on one dial, a Patek complication since the 1930s

Patek Philippe has made world time watches since the 1930s, built on the mechanism the Swiss watchmaker Louis Cottier devised in 1931 to show all 24 zones on a single dial. A city ring names one place per zone, a 24 hour ring inside it separates day from night, and the central hands read the time for whichever city sits at 12. A single pusher at 10 o'clock selects the city and its time zone. The family today runs from time only models at 36 mm through the 5330G, which indexes the date to local time, to the 5935A flyback chronograph in steel.
