This is the plain-bezel steel 37mm, the volume reference of the size. The 37mm case dates to 2012, made for the Royal Oak's fortieth anniversary, and was reworked in 2022 with deeper bevels and a cleaner dial.

This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding wears a 37mm steel case with a light blue tapisserie dial and a plain steel bezel. Calibre 5900 inside, on a steel bracelet.

Fun fact: in the 2022 update Audemars Piguet removed the printed dial text and replaced it with a raised 24-carat gold signature, and deleted the shortened hour marker that used to sit beside the date window.

The 1972 steel sports watch that set the template for the integrated bracelet

The Royal Oak arrived in 1972, widely credited as the first luxury sports watch in steel, drawn by Gérald Genta around an octagonal bezel held down by eight visible screws. Everything else follows from that: the bracelet integrated into the case and tapering to the clasp, the Tapisserie dial on most references, the hand-finished play of brushed tops against polished bevels. The line now runs from simple time and date up to perpetual calendars and open-worked pieces.
