Grey wasn't part of the original run when AP relaunched the 41mm Royal Oak Selfwinding as the 15510ST for the Royal Oak's 50th anniversary in 2022. That debut came in blue, black, silver and khaki, each with an anniversary rotor. This grey dial belongs to the ongoing, non-anniversary catalogue that has kept adding colours since, on the same case AP redrew that year: bracelet links thinned and tapered after the vintage 15202, bezel screws still functional rather than decorative, sealing the case to 50m.

This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding wears a 41mm stainless steel case with a grey Grande Tapisserie dial. Calibre 4302 inside, on a stainless steel bracelet.

Fun fact: the case grew 0.6mm thicker than the previous-generation 15400ST for one specific reason: fitting the calibre 4302, which runs at 4Hz against the older calibre 3120's 3Hz, for a smoother-sweeping seconds hand.

The 1972 steel sports watch that set the template for the integrated bracelet

The Royal Oak arrived in 1972, widely credited as the first luxury sports watch in steel, drawn by Gérald Genta around an octagonal bezel held down by eight visible screws. Everything else follows from that: the bracelet integrated into the case and tapering to the clasp, the Tapisserie dial on most references, the hand-finished play of brushed tops against polished bevels. The line now runs from simple time and date up to perpetual calendars and open-worked pieces.
