The Oyster Perpetual is Rolex reduced to its essence: the waterproof Oyster case of 1926 and the self winding rotor of 1931, nothing else. Its lacquer dials made it the most playful watch in the catalogue and the hardest entry Rolex to find.

An Oyster Perpetual 41 in 41mm steel from 2022, turquoise on the wrist. Calibre 3230 keeps it running.

Fun fact: Oyster is the case Rolex patented in 1926, the first waterproof wristwatch, and Perpetual is the self winding rotor it patented in 1931. Together they are the foundation every other Rolex is built on.

The reference in depth

Turquoise dial, 41mm, out of production

Why this one matters

Rolex replaced the 39mm ref 114300 with the 41mm 124300 in 2020 and used the moment to give the Oyster Perpetual line a set of lacquered colour dials: candy pink, yellow, green, coral red and turquoise blue. The 41mm took four of the five; candy pink was reserved for the smaller cases.

The dial does most of the work. It is a flat, saturated blue-green under a smooth domed bezel, with no date and no cyclops to interrupt it. Turquoise left the 41mm in 2022, after a run of roughly eighteen months, though it stayed in the 31mm and 36mm. The Celebration motif dial joined the range in 2023, and in 2025 ref 134300 replaced the 124300.

The movement

The 3230 arrived in 2020, debuting in this reference alongside the Oyster Perpetual 36 and the Submariner 124060, and it replaced the calibre 3132 used in the outgoing 114300. It brings the Chronergy escapement in nickel-phosphorus, a Parachrom hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers and a power reserve of about 70 hours, rated by Rolex to -2/+2 seconds a day after casing. It is time only, with no date mechanism to mistreat.

On the wrist

41mm with a smooth bezel and a wide dial opening, so it can read larger on the wrist than a Datejust 41 of the same diameter, at least against a fluted bezel. The flat Oyster bracelet and folding Oysterclasp keep the profile low, and the lacquer shifts through the day, brighter and almost green in direct sun, deeper under artificial light.

Questions we are asked about this reference

Is this the dial people call Tiffany?

Rolex calls it turquoise blue. The nickname comes from the colour alone and there is no connection between the two companies.

How does the 41 compare with the older 39mm?

It is 2mm wider and the dial opening is wider again, so many owners find the jump on the wrist reads larger than the numbers suggest.

Is turquoise coming back?

Rolex has announced nothing. Turquoise left the 41mm in 2022, the 41mm moved to ref 134300 in 2025, and the colour has remained in the smaller sizes.

The collection

Oyster Perpetual

The base of the range, time only under a domed bezel

Oyster Perpetual sits at the foot of the whole range, and the two words behind it are the two things the house is built on: the waterproof Oyster case of 1926 and the self winding Perpetual rotor of 1931. There is no date and no complication, just a three hand dial under a domed bezel and an Oyster bracelet with an Oysterclasp and the Easylink 5 mm comfort extension. Water resistance is 100 m, the movement is calibre 3230 in the 36 and 41 and calibre 2232 in the 28, 31 and 34, and the lacquered dials include silver, black, beige, lavender, pistachio, candy pink and turquoise blue. Cases are Oystersteel, Yellow Rolesor, yellow gold or Everose gold, with diamond set bezels and stone or mother of pearl dials on some of the gold models.
